60er Jahre / The Sixties

1960 Formula Junior 2Formel-Rennwagen wurden zu Anfang der 60er Jahre immer mehr zur Attraktion. Bei Porsche baute man zunächst Formel 2 – Rennwagen mit 1,5-Liter-Motoren. Rennidol Hans Herrmann fuhr einen 1960 auf der Solitude und wurde nur knapp von Graf Trips auf Ferrari geschlagen. 1961 kam erstmals die Formel 1 auf die Solitude, mit allen Stars und auch ein Porsche Werksteam war dabei. Im Jahr darauf kam Porsche mit einem neuen Achtzylinder und es gab einen Solitude-Doppelsieg mit Dan Gurney und Joakim Bonnier.

Das Solitude-Rennen 1964 gilt als eine der besten Motorsportveranstaltungen aller Zeiten. Mit Motorradweltmeisterschaftsläufen in allen sechs Klassen und einem Formel 1 Grand Prix in Bestbesetzung bot dieser Renntag eine noch nie gekannte Qualität. Superstars vom Schlage Surtees, Clark, Brabham, Graham Hill, Hailwood, Redman, Read und Agostini gaben sich ein Stelldichein. Die Rekorde purzelten nur so bei den Motorrädern und bei den Rennwagen kam es zu einer kuriosen Regen-Hitzeschlacht. Im Jahr 1965 sollte die letzte Veranstaltung auf der Solitude stattfinden. Mit Motorradläufen, Sportwagen und Formel 2 verabschiedete sich der internationale Motorsport aus dem Stuttgarter Wildpark.

Formula race cars in the beginning of the sixties became more and more an attraction. At Porsche they first built up Formula 2 cars powered by 1.5-litre engines. Racing idol Hans Herrmann drove one in 1960 at Solitude and only by seconds was beaten from Count Trips on a Ferrari. In 1961 for the first time the Formula 1 cars entered Solitude, presenting all stars and a Porsche factory team. In the following year Porsche came back with a new flat-eight race car and they effected a double-win with Dan Gurney and Joakim Bonnier.

The 1964 Solitude race is considered as one of the best motor racing events of all times. Including World Championship runs in all six motorcycle classes and a best-entry Formula 1 race, this race day offered a never experienced quality. Superstars such as Surtees, Clark, Brabham, Graham Hill, Hailwood, Redman, Read and Agostini came up with on the same day. Record breaking was used in the motorcycle classes and in Formula 1 there was a curious battle in heat and rain. In 1965 came the end for Solitude events. For the last time motorcycles, sportscars and Formula 2 cars appeared and the international motorsport said goodbye forever to the Stuttgart game preserve.
